Jessica Sanchez is, hands down, the better singer. And at 16! You'd wonder what she can/will do five years from now. By then, her voice will have more fully aged, settled and been trained relentlessly in the cutthroat art of professional singing. Heck, she can already out-sing Jennifer Lopez!
But it's really all about the TOTAL package, I think.
It's about the looks, the performance, the polished packaging, the x-factor, the novelty (or the USP, unique selling proposition), the racial, sexual and gender appeal that can cut across a wider demographic and the images that one shows in the collective minds of America.
And, ladies and gentlemen, it has almost always been the WGWG. Or that white guy with guitar.
It's Phillip Phillips.

Amusements: Star Date Log 15-5-2012
Is it easier now? There are a lot more of the anonymous worlds where Narnians and other creatures of the wardrobe can purr and play?
Yes, sometimes we wonder when we wake up if the happy surprise will finally arrive. Will he finally send that stray text or email that will lead to something wonderful. We wish, not too much, but just with a whiff to send us off our day.

We've had enough false starts to know better and many bated breaths to invest too much..... Enough already. Days that buoy up like helium sheathed in primary colored latex. Days that turn up and then just as easily turn leaden with pins and needles.

Idolatry
American Idol is in season again. That means I can see an interesting cross section of the land of milk and honey. The show seems a lot more subdued, though. I don't know, but there are fewer outlying voices donning costumes --- remember the guy wearing feathers or that clueless she-bang guy.
Still, Simon Cowell may be right, all along. The franchise may have run its course. In fact, it has long become predictable and, lately, a bit stale.
But surprises still drop by. Phillip Phillips is one pop idol package. He's a potential.
